Nicholson Engineering Ltd is a locally owned and operated business, that has been a name in Bluff since the 1920s. The Nicholson Engineering Ltd that it is today, has been since a change of ownership in 2015. The name, however, dates back almost 100 years. The name Nicholson & Son; Engineers and Blacksmiths, dates to the 1920s, where the business operated on Palmer Street in Bluff and still is to this day. The catchphrase, ‘all kinds of machinery made and repaired,’ which the business still uses today, is from the 1940s.
A name synonymous with Bluff, Nicholson Engineering Ltd take pride in listening to the requirements of clients, and through working together, take pride in providing expert advice and solutions to meet and exceed client expectations.
Nicholson Engineering value safety in the workplace, and as such, staff carry welding certification, height and harness safety certification and first aid certificates. Nicholson Engineering is proud members of Site Safe and consults regularly with Safe WorkPlace Systems.
Nicholson Engineering is community minded and has donated or assisted in a variety of community projects in Bluff. Nicholson Engineering, after being approached by the committee of the Bluff Schools Reunion, designed and made the ‘Bench of Kiwa’ which sits proudly in place at Bluff School. Nicholson Engineering made and donated to the Port Softball club two portable batting cages. With health and safety an important aspect of Nicholson Engineering’s ethos, the business, in partnership with Wurth, decided to supply much-needed headlamps to the Bluff St John Ambulance Service. Nicholson Engineering also sponsored Bluff School History Timeline and are an annual sponsor of the Bluff Oyster Festival held in May each year.

A family business, Nicholson Engineering believe in supporting the industry through training apprentices. The dedicated team at Nicholson Engineering are passionate about the industry with over 40 years of experience in the industry and hold qualifications such as a Level 4 Mechanical Engineering (fitter and turner) specialising in marine engineering.
Communication is key to the day-to-day operations of the workshop, as no two days are the same. With every day presenting different challenges and problems to solve, the working day is always interesting and Nicholson Engineering staff are truly passionate about what they do, their knowledge of the industry, and offering customers quality work and best practice engineering.
All staff at Nicholson Engineering have a can-do attitude, are adept at problem-solving, not only perform maintenance work or repairs but can make things from scratch. When it comes to marine engineering, an ability to multitask, and the knowledge that time is of the essence, ensures Nicholson Engineering staff meet tight turnaround times.
